Paintings Gallery

The paintings are original works of art that I have created on acid free paper. The figurative paintings are achieved in the medium of pastel done while a model poses. The pastel dance paintings come from sketches that I have drawn in different dance studios. These are taken back to my studio where I will select which sketch that will become a finished work.

Both these two series are influenced by my earliest love of Impressionism. As a young aspiring teenage artist I was drawn to the works of the Claude Monet and Edgar Degas. When I returned to the states from Paris settling in New England, I discovered the art of the contemporary painter Wolf Kahn whose colors have also influenced my own paintings.

I prefer the medium of pastel for its vibrancy which is unlike any other, furthermore pastel provides the freshness and spontaneity that I am looking to capture in these two series of paintings.

The ink and watercolor series are also images of dancers that present bold colors and sharp graphic outlines. These works begin as a drawing in my sketch books and are then enlarged to the proper size paper and meticulously finished with pens and fine brushes.

We do ship framed paintings with glass however they require special boxes designed for this purpose. Call our office at (413) 238-7755 for more information about this or email us at info@andrewdevries.com
