Sound and Fury is a dramatic flamenco dance sculpture inspired by the flamenco dancer/choreographer Irene Rodriquez. Andrew first saw her perform at Jacob’s Pillow in 2019. Andrew also sketched her that same year while she taught classes at the Jacob’s Pillow School. A number of pastels paintings have come about from those drawings.
Soon after that time, Andrew envisioned this sculpture. His quandary was how to put this sketch into clay and how to put the essence of the movement into such a solid material? Andrew began this quest in the winter of 2020 seeking to bring that vision to life.
The completed bronze brought accolades of compliments from Irene herself after Andrew emailed her photos of the sculpture. Pamela Tatge, Director of Jacob’s Pillow who came to the Andrew’s studios in late June also saw this sculpture. She praised the work saying it captured the spirit of Irene’s fervent dancing.
Sound and Fury measures 31.5”h x 18.5”w x 10”d and is mounted on a black marble base and is priced at $12,000. The sculpture shown here has been acquired by one of our dear art loving collectors.
