Spanish Dancer

$4,000

Description

The Spanish Dancer sculpture is the third in a series of works dedicated to Flamenco dance.  In this work her skirt flutters showing the movement of her turning and about to step sideways toward an unseen lover. She has just flicked her fan open; her gaze follows along her outstretched arm and demands your intention. Her left arm shows a tension as it curls up along her back with her hand bent at the wrist and fingers curling like a claw.

In Flamenco, the artists, whether singer, dancer or musician are rendering their souls through their performance. This is known in Spanish as El Duende and defined by the famed poet Frederico Garcia Lorca as a strange, mysterious and unfathomable force expressed through the artists when they surrender to that unknowable spirit.

The Spanish Dancer conveys that ethereal spirit. Her presence displays a passionate past, present and future movement that is imagined through the viewer’s mind.

Spanish Dancer measures 15 inches width by 11 inches height by 4 ½ inches depth. It is mounted on a black onyx base and will be cast in an edition of 12. The price is $ 4,000. Call us at our gallery to bring this passionate work to your home! (413) 238-7755.
